EU-India Strategic Dialogue
On 21-22 October, the Institute organised the 2024 EU-India Strategic Dialogue in Delhi in collaboration with the Ananta Aspen Centre and Institut Montaigne.
This closed-door gathering brought together officials, experts, and policymakers for two days of frank discussions on shared security, economic and technological challenges, exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration.
Discussions explored pathways to a more strategic EU-India relationship, particularly advancing the EU-India Free Trade Agreement and the Trade and Technology Council to drive collaboration on shared trade, technology and innovation priorities.
Geopolitical perspectives highlighted differing security views, particularly regarding Russia’s actions in Ukraine and China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific. Participants emphasised the need for better mutual understanding and flexible approaches to address these tensions, given the distinct regional security concerns each side faces.
Resilience and security cooperation were also important themes, with both sides highlighting supply chain diversification and regulatory alignment as essential. Semiconductors and green technologies were identified as potential areas for co-operation. Maritime security, cybersecurity, and digital transformation also emerged as areas for future collaboration, aiming to bolster regional security and trust within a long-term, strategic framework.
The dialogue underscored both the complexity and opportunity within the EU-India partnership. The aim of addressing these diverse challenges in frank and open debate, highlighted the ambition to build a resilient and balanced partnership prepared for future global shifts.
