As part of its mission to find a common security culture for the EU, to help develop and project the CFSP, and to enrich Europe’s strategic debate, the Institute regularly releases publications on the topics and regions at the core of the Union's work.

The Institute’s flagship publication is its series of Chaillot Papers, which are based on focused, in-depth research. The EUISS also publishes a Yearbook (YES), Reports, and shorter Briefs.

    Myanmar: would Europe get back in the picture please?

    The recent events in Myanmar (Burma), beginning with the November 2010 elections and the following series of reforms, have taken Europe by surprise, and, to say it bluntly, they have been an embarrassing surprise. Myanmar’s first elections in 20 years have drawn the usual criticism from  Europe, fearing ’an attempt to consolidate authoritarian military rule in a civilian guise’. Could it have been otherwise?

    Toward a new Euro-Atlantic security framework

    In November 2011, Moscow threatened to deploy tactical nuclear weaponry in Kaliningrad in response to US Missile Defense (MD) radar systems to be deployed in Turkey. Although Washington argued that MD systems are intended to counter Iranian missile systems, Moscow still regards the fourth phase of the Phased Adaptive Approach as potentially threatening to Russia itself. Moscow additionally stated that it might quit New START after the US dropped out of the adapted Conventional Force in Europe (CFE) treaty.

To prevent this, the trust of the Congolese people in the political process must, at least partly, be restored.

    The Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention will convene in Geneva for the 7th Review Conference between 5-22 December 2011. Because scientific research and the industrial application of this science contain certain inherent dangers, this paper argues that it is imperative that the stakeholders in industry and academia are brought into the BTWC discussions.
